Preliminary GB Men's Elite Development Programme Squad Announced For 2022

As a new year begins, Great Britain Hockey is excited to announce a preliminary squad of 35 players and five reserves has been selected for the GB Men's Elite Development Programme (EDP) in 2022.

Athletes from across England, Scotland and Wales have been included in the initial squad, with others set to be added when the full list is confirmed at the end of January. The GB Women's EDP squad for 2022 will also be confirmed later this month.

First formed in 2017, the GB EDP was designed to help those identified as having the potential to perform on the world's best level an environment in which they could develop the skills, physicality and character required to become a medal-winning Olympian.

A large number of players have already progressed from the system into the senior Great Britain set-ups, with seven of them - Fiona Crackles, Jacob Draper, Ollie Payne, Izzy Petter, Tom Sorsby, Zach Wallace and Jack Waller - all going on to represent Team GB at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Furthermore, all eight players who earlier this week were announced as having been selected for the GB women's squad for the Paris 2024 cycle have been in the GB EDP set-up previously.

During their time in the programme, players will attend a number of two-day training camps and will be in regular contact with the senior squads through training sessions and practice matches.

Jon Bleby will continue in his role as head coach of the GB Men's EDP for 2022, with Barry Middleton and Graham Moodie working as his assistants.
